Ellery is on the trail of a serial killer in New york City. Intriguing dustjacket by Carl Rose depicts an ominous cat with a question mark tail, sprouting eight nooses, perched upon city buildings and terrorizing the populace. Boards are bright blue woven cloth stamped in blue; DJ is lightly chipped and worn with several closed tears. pp. 245. Not published as serial prior to book publication. Book leaves show yellowing but are all intact and unmarred. Endpaper has neat stamp of previous owner's name. Red DJ shows very little wear along edges. Top inside flap is discolored. Slight foxing on parts of white back cover but no foxing on pages. Notable because this was the first case that Ellery Queen helped his father, Inspector Richard Queen, solve. Still one of his best stories. The original edition of this novel costs in excess of $1000. If you can't afford it, this is the next best thing.
